State-of-the-art facility opens on East Mississippi CC campus

Neel-Schaffer served as the Engineer of record and provided a host of services for the new $42 million, 145,000-square foot Center for Manufacturing Excellence that opened in the Summer of 2019 on the campus of East Mississippi Community College in Mayhew.

Known as CMTE 2.0, the state-of-the-art building was funded by a coalition of partners that includes EMCC, the Appalachian Regional Commission, the Mississippi Legislature, and Clay, Lowndes and Oktibbeha counties. Also dubbed the “Communiversity” due to its many stakeholders and the role it will play in the Golden Triangle community, the building now houses the EMCC Workforce Division programs in advanced manufacturing.

As a subconsultant to Pryor-Morrow Architects, Neel-Schaffer provided civil site design for all infrastructure work, including grading, drainage, water, sewer, parking, roadways and sidewalks. The firm also provided survey services and performed traffic impact studies prior to the start of construction and then provided construction oversight when the building was under construction.
