Pelican Park Multi-Use Facility

MANDEVILLE, LA

Pickleball courts are featured amenity designed by Neel-Schaffer

Neel-Schaffer provided programming, schematic design, final design, bidding and construction phase services for this $1.8 million green space and multi-generational project for Pelican Park. The project was funded by St. Tammany Parish, Recreation District. No. 1.

The project converted an unused baseball field and surrounding area into a multi-use facility that incorporates a walking trail that circles a pond feature and various adult recreation amenities, such as pickleball courts, bocce ball courts, shuffleboard, horseshoes, and exercise equipment.

The walkway is routed through an oak grove, elevated to prevent damage to tree roots. The pond includes timber bulkheads and fountains as well as spillways for discharging storm event overflows.

The project engineering included geotechnical engineering, a hydrology and hydraulics study supporting site drainage design and pond hydraulics, civil sitework, site-lighting and landscaping.
