Minority Scholarship Program

Neel-Schaffer established a minority scholarship program for engineering students in 1990 and has since awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships to students across the South.

The first recipient of the Neel-Schaffer minority scholarship, Contena Carothers Alexander, graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and is now the Transportation Engineering Manager for the Department of Public Works in the City of Atlanta.

Four minority scholarship recipients currently work for the firm, including three professional engineers. Mauricka McKenzie is a water engineer in the Jackson (MS) office. Stephanie Vivians is a transportation engineer/project manager in the Jackson (MS) office. And Theresa Carter is a transportation project manager in the Birmingham (AL) office.
