Top-of-the-line building supports Tide rowers

Neel-Schaffer provided structural engineering design services for an 11,163-square-foot state-of-the-art rowing facility that is home to the University of Alabama crew team.

Situation on the banks of the Black Warrior River, the building is steel framed with masonry infill walls and exterior brick veneer.

This project required special design services of deep foundations, including design of a piling system and design and detailing for concrete pile caps; design for approximately 440 feet of site retaining walls; and design of structures for dock/boat access, including pile supported concrete design for access slabs and low concrete walls, and design for anchorage of existing floating dock that was relocated.

The project was designed to conform to 2009 IBC Building Code, including Chapter 17 Special Inspections.  Neel-Schaffer also provided construction observation to monitor progress and general conformance with plans and specifications.

The building can be accessed via the Warrior Riverwalk, a multi-use path that follows the river and was also designed by Neel-Schaffer.
