USM Hillcrest Residence Hall Pathway

HATTIESBURG, MS

Adding safe – and attractive – bike & ped space on campus

Neel-Schaffer provided engineering design and construction management services for a new 15-foot wide multi-use path that connects Eagle Walk Drive to the Century North parking lot and the Hillcrest Residence Hall on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi.

The pathway design follows the University’s standard design, which includes a 12-inch brick paver divider, decorative lighting with banner arms, and scored and colored concrete design and pathway intersections.

The new path provides a safe and attractive pedestrian and bicycle space for students and faculty to travel without using their vehicles.

Funding for the $425,000 project was through the Transportation Alternative Program, which provides funding for bicycle and pedestrian related projects through each state’s Departments of Transportation.
