Sutton Street Drainage Improvements

Neel-Schaffer helps secure Disaster Recovery Grant for Savannah

Neel-Schaffer was selected by the City of Savannah (TN) to provide engineering services related to a drainage improvement project in the Sutton Street/Harbert Drive area.

The area experienced frequent flooding during moderate to heavy rainfall events, resulting in structure damage to residences as well as roadway overtopping of major streets. With Neel-Schaffer’s assistance, the City applied for and received a grant through the Tennessee Disaster Recovery Grant Program to fund drainage improvements to mitigate the impacts of future storm events. As part of the project, Neel-Schaffer analyzed the existing conditions to identify bottlenecks in the drainage system, and to determine which potential improvements would produce the greatest benefit to the area.

The $578,500 project included replacement of a detention basin, replacement of culverts under three roadways with precast concrete box culverts, replacement of pipe culverts under three other roadways, and approximately 1,200 linear feet of channel improvements, including concrete lining and turf-reinforcement mat lining.
