Matt Stevenson, SMP, CSMC
Director of Safety & Health
Matt joined Neel-Schaffer in 2022 and serves as the Director of Safety & Health. He is a board-certified leader in safety management who has more than 20 years of experience managing safety and health programs and/or providing safety consulting services for a variety of industries.
Matt holds Safety Management Professional (SMP) certification through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals and is a Certified Safety Manager for Construction (CSMC) through the National Association of Safety Professionals.
Matt spends much of his time at the various Neel-Schaffer offices and job sites, conducting safety training sessions and updating our employees on safety regulations.
His responsibilities also include developing, leading, and implementing long-term health and safety strategies and short-term initiatives and methodologies that effectively manage government and client compliance requirements, along with risk mitigation objectives aligned with the company’s operational needs.
Neel-Schaffer is committed to the ongoing development of a strong safety culture for all of our employees, clients, and the communities in which we serve, and Matt helps grow that culture daily. The commitment and responsibility for the health, safety and culture of our employees starts at the top of our organization with our executive leadership, but it extends through every level of supervision, to each employee, interns and subconsultants.
In addition to the delivery of training courses throughout our region, Matt is Neel-Schaffer’s liaison to OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. He reviews, investigates, identifies and provides corrective action for all incidents through our formal Injury and Incident Response procedure. He is also responsible for all illness and injury record keeping, and he updates our corporate safety and health program regularly.
