Neel-Schaffer provides ‘Eyes in the Sky’ service for MDOT

Neel-Schaffer was contracted by the Mississippi Department of Transportation to provide aerial photography and videography of a wide variety of projects with the use of a drone piloted by a certified and licensed drone pilot. 

James Lawson, who has five years of experience as a certified drone pilot, was the pilot assigned to this contract. He has served as Neel-Schaffer’s main drone pilot since 2014, flying the DJI Inspire 1 to capture still photography and aerial video of a wide variety of projects. James completed 10 task orders under this contract for MDOT in 2017. The projects included a mix of pre-construction, during construction, and post-construction photos and videos. The projects included: 

I-269 Construction, North Mississippi: Provided aerial still and video photography of a 28-mile stretch of new construction of Interstate 269, from I-55 to the Tennessee border, for an MDOT project progress report. 

I-10 Pre-Construction, Gautier, MS: Provided aerial still and video photography of a seven-mile stretch of I-10 in south Mississippi, prior to an interstate widening project. 

I-55 Project Progress, Jackson: Provided project progress aerial still and video photography of a seven-mile stretch of I-55 that is being widened south of Jackson. 

SR 12 Pre-Construction, Starkville, MS: Provided aerial still and video photography of a four-mile stretch of SR 12, from SR 25 to the Mississippi State University campus. 

Crystal Springs (MS) Roundabouts: Provided pre- and post-completion aerial still and video photography of a new roundabout on US 51 near Crystal Springs. 

J-Turn, Prentiss, MS: Provided aerial still and video photography following the completion of a new J-Turn on SR 13 near Prentiss. 

Coldwater (MS) Bridge Replacement: Provided aerial still and video photography following the completion of a new bridge on US 51 near Coldwater in north Mississippi. 

Pre-Construction Traffic Study, Magee, MS: Provided aerial still and video photography of an area near US 49 and a new elementary school in Magee. route for a new access road to the school. 

I-20/US 80, Brandon, MS: Provided aerial still and video photography following the completion of a new west-bound on-ramp. 

MS 471, Brandon, MS, for MDOT: Provided aerial still and video photography following the completion of a new bridge and 1.5-mile stretch of roadway.
