Neel-Schaffer has an opportunity for a Traffic Engineering Lead in our Middle Tennessee offices. This position will lead primary responsibilities of our Tennessee traffic engineering group.

The successful candidate will provide technical expertise, staff leadership, project oversight, and client-facing interaction for a wide range of traffic engineering projects. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional looking for advancement who combines strong technical knowledge with leadership, mentoring, and business development skills. The Traffic Engineering Lead will provide subject matter expertise, lead project teams, and continue serving our client’s traffic engineering needs.

Expertise

• Lead and oversee preparation of:
  • Traffic signal design and modernization design
  • Traffic Impact Studies (TIS/TIA)
  • Traffic operational analyses
  • Corridor/Intersection studies
  • Signal timing and coordination plans
  • Signing, striping, and pavement marking plans
  • Traffic control plans (MOT/TCPs)
  • Safety Studies
  • Traffic simulation modeling
• Working knowledge of the latest traffic engineering/simulation software programs, including HCS, Synchro, Sidra, and Vissim.
• Provide QC/QA review of traffic engineering deliverables.
• Manage and support multi-disciplinary team efforts, including alternative delivery projects.

Responsibilities:

• Seller / Doer mentality.
• Serve as technical lead on traffic engineering projects.
• Lead and grow traffic engineering staff.
• Serve as primary traffic engineering point of contact for clients and support proposal development (DOT, municipal, private clients).
• Stay current on industry trends, regulations and emerging technologies.

Minimum Qualifications:

• BSCE from an ABET-accredited university.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Tennessee or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
• 8-15 years of progressive traffic/transportation experience.
• 3+ years of experience in developing/managing staff.
• Certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE), preferred.
• Certified Road Safety Professional (RSP), preferred.

Ideal candidate will possess the following:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Possess a strong understanding in developing all project management controls including scope development, proposals, budgeting, scheduling, staff management, and quality assurance and control.
• The ability to manage AND assist in the production of design deliverables
  Proficiency with Microstation (or equivalent) design platforms.
• Independent experience with TDOT PDN plan development and Local Program processes.
• Strong understanding of Microsoft Office applications.
