Westin Hotel coming to downtown Jackson

Neel-Schaffer is pleased to be a part of another exciting new project coming to downtown Jackson, the $53 million Westin Hotel.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the hotel was held today at the site on West Street. Among the speakers were Jackson Mayor Tony Yarber, Speaker of the House Phillip Gunn, state Senator John Hohrn, and Joseph Simpson, the head of Capital Hotels Associates, LLC, and the driving force behind this project.

The four-star, 203-room hotel will include 12,000 square feet of meeting space.

“The impact the Westin will have on downtown Jackson is immeasurable,” said Jennifer Johnson, president of the Jackson Redevelopment Authority.

“There is tremendous revitalization going on in downtown Jackson,” Speaker Gunn told a crowd of more than 100.

“Jackson is on its way back,” Senator Hohrn told the crowd. “And as Jackson goes, so goes Mississippi.”

Said Mayor Yarber: “When you have a vision, you can get things done.”

Neel-Schaffer is providing engineering design and project management services for the development of the nine-story hotel. The project is coordinated with Capitol Hotel Associates, Elness Swenson Graham Architects, and Brasfield & Gorrie (project contractor) for demolition of existing buildings and infrastructure, and the construction and improvements related to the hotel.
