Neel-Schaffer is seeking applications from qualified applicants for the position of Water Resources Engineer to join this growing discipline in our expanding engineering design, planning and construction management firm. This role can be based in one of our many Mississippi offices – with a preference for Jackson, Madison, Ridgeland, Brandon, Oxford, or Laurel.

The successful candidate will be a driven professional eager to advance their career with strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. You will be a part of Neel-Schaffer’s Regional Water Resources Team, collaborating on diverse projects in Water Resources, Hydrology/Hydraulics and MS4.

Typical projects could include various types of drainage, flood control, bridge hydraulic studies/designs, bridge scour analyses, storm water management studies, basin master plans, erosion and sediment control design, water quality permitting, and MS4 Program compliance. Additionally, you may assist with exciting modeling, design, permitting, and construction efforts for drainage, flood control, and storm water infrastructure projects, as well as support MS4 programs for local MS cities. There are opportunities as well to support our Environmental Team in cross discipline projects such as permitting, SWPPP, water quality, monitoring, and hydraulic analysis.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related degree(s).
  • Professional Engineer in the state of Mississippi with the ability to become licensed in other states in the Southeast US.
  • 3 to 10+ years of experience with technical work in Water Resources, Hydrology, Hydraulics, Water Quality, and Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4s) Program Compliance.
  • Strong leadership skills, verbal and written communication skills, analytical skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to plan and conceptualize.
  • Knowledge of the latest hydrologic and hydraulic computer modeling programs, including GIS-based applications is required.
  • HEC-RAS 1D/2D, SMS SRH2D, EPA-SWMM/PCSWMM 1D/2D, HEC-HMS, HydraFlow, HydroCAD, StormCAD, etc.
  • Experience with Microstation (and/or GEOPAK Drainage/Open Roads Designer), AutoCAD (and/or Civil 3D), and ArcGIS is a plus.
  • Knowledge of National Pollution Discharge Elimination Systems (NPDES) permitting, stormwater Best Management Practices, design and implementation of Green Infrastructure and Low Impact Development practices, and Erosion and Sediment Control design.
  • Ability to perform a limited amount of field work, including drainage investigations, drainage asset inventorying, etc.
  • Working knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Limited travel may be required as necessary for some projects.
