Neel-Schaffer is seeking applications from qualified candidates for an experienced Engineer to join our growing engineering firm. This position can be based in our Birmingham (Hoover), AL office. The successful candidate must have relevant work experience and ability to independently evaluate, select and apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment to make minor adjustments.

Expertise and Responsibilities:

• Assigned to project teams and may make major design recommendations;
• Performs calculations;
• Designs;
• Prepares reports, opinions, and recommendations for the approval of his/her supervisor;
• Supervises technicians and coordinates with survey personnel;
• Acts as a technical advisor to junior professional staff assigned to the project;
• May serve as a field engineer during construction;
• Is assigned component portions of major projects;
• May be assigned management of small-scale projects to gain experience in project management;
• Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the work in a part of a major project or in a total project;
• Performs work which involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features, such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials and difficult coordination requirements;
• May require checking the work of others;
• Develops and produces technical solutions consistent with design, client and company goals;
• Assists in marketing and develops relationships with clients;
• Persons at this level must use their personal work plans to carry out assignments, including revision to accelerate or slow up a project when needed;
• Overnight, out-of-town travel may be required.

The candidate should have a strong work ethic, the capacity to work well with fellow
employees and the ability to work well with minimal supervision.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering plus 4 years of experience in the engineering field, or Master’s degree in Engineering plus 3 years of experience in the engineering field.
• Must hold a professional registration in engineering.
