Neel-Schaffer is seeking applications from qualified candidates for an experienced Engineer Intern to join our growing engineering firm. This position can be based in our Hoover office, outside Birmingham, AL.

The successful candidate must have relevant work experience and the ability to independently evaluate, select and apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment to make minor adjustments.

Expertise and Responsibilities:

• Operates computers and run reports or calculations;
• Designs portions of a project under supervision of an experienced professional;
• Researches catalogs for commercially available equipment to avoid expense of original design;
• Specifies equipment based on catalog searches;
• Researches code requirements in out-of-town project sites;
• Prepares draft reports and draft permit applications;
• May prepare the drawings of designs he or she has originated;
• Performs work which involves conventional types of plans, investigation, surveys, structures or reports for which there are precedents;
• Assignments usually include one or more of the following:
  • equipment design and development;
  • testing of materials;
  • preparation of specifications;
  • process study;
  • research investigation;
  • report preparation;
  • minor construction administration;
  • and other activities of a limited scope requiring knowledge of standard principles and techniques;
• May be responsible for phases of a single project, or in some cases, for a short or small-scale project;
• May occasionally serve as project manager;
• May begin active participation in marketing activities.
• The candidate should have a strong work ethic, the capacity to work well with fellow employees and the ability to work well with minimal supervision.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering plus 2 years of experience in the engineering field, or Master’s degree in Engineering plus one year experience in the engineering field.
• Must hold an intern registration in engineering.
