JACKSON, Miss. (February 10, 2023) – Neel-Schaffer, Inc., is pleased to announce the acquisition of Calvert-Spradling Engineers, Inc., a civil engineering firm based in West Point, Mississippi. The acquisition, which was finalized on February 10, 2023, will allow the firms to meaningfully advance client offerings and provide deeper resources in the Golden Triangle area of northeast Mississippi and throughout the Neel-Schaffer footprint.
Calvert-Spradling, founded by Bob Calvert, PE, and Stanley Spradling, PE, more than 40 years ago, provides civil engineering and surveying services for municipalities, counties, state agencies, utilities, and institutions throughout the North Mississippi region. Having instilled a culture of ethical commitment and sound engineering through dedicated local professionals, Calvert-Spradling is recognized throughout the region as an engineering leader in municipal, county, utility, and industrial development.
Combined, Neel-Schaffer and Calvert-Spradling have provided engineering services to Golden Triangle clients for more than 80 years. The firms share the same core values and are committed to improving the communities in which their employees live and work.
“Our commitment to clients on a local, personal level will remain unchanged,” said Calvert. “Stanley and I are eager to expand our design team, allowing us all to focus more on one-on-one client relationships, and our expanded team will continue to manage our client’s project needs while also building new personal relationships, internally and externally.”
“This is really exciting for us,” said Spradling. “Joining with Neel-Schaffer will allow us to continue our focus on quality relationships with clients and in providing a quality engineering product.”
Neel-Schaffer now operates 38 offices across nine states, all focused on being a community-oriented company at heart. The merger strengthens the firm’s roots in the Golden Triangle Area, with long-time, born and raised employees serving from our offices in Columbus and Starkville, and now West Point.
“We are honored to join forces with Calvert-Spradling,” said Neel-Schaffer President and CEO Joey Hudnall, PE, a Columbus native who started his career with his father’s Columbus-based firm, Hudnall Engineering. “We have had a wonderful working relationship with them through the years, with my father’s firm and Neel-Schaffer. They are known for being an honest organization with high integrity and it’s great that we are able to come together to serve our clients in the communities where we have both been for over 40 years.”
“I have admired Bob and Stanley for decades for both the work they produce and the humble, genuine relationship they offer,” said Kevin Stafford, PE, Neel-Schaffer’s North Mississippi Regional Manager. “They have always been a great partner in the community, and we have had the pleasure of working well together when the community has a pressing need. I am elated to merge our teams in order to strengthen our local staff and better serve our communities.”
