PROJECT SPOTLIGHT Sports & Recreational Facilities
The Quarry: Brandon Amphitheater & Rankin Trails
Baseball Park | Brandon, MS
Neel-Schaffer was the Engineer of Record for this project that brought two state-
of-the-art facilities to the City of Brandon, MS, an 8,500-seat amphitheater and a
50-acre youth baseball complex.
The Brandon Amphitheater opened in Spring 2018 and has made an immediate
impact, drawing sell-out crowds to national touring acts such as Jason Aldean,
Widespread Panic, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Chicago.
The Rankin Trails baseball facility opened in Spring 2019, touting six fields, a
welcoming pavilion, two ancillary concession stands, restrooms and an 800-space
parking lot. The baseball fields have synthetic turf infields, sodded outfields, brick
backstops and dugouts, netting, shaded seating areas, and state-of-the-art lighting
systems. The $6 million facility is designed to be expanded to a total of 11 fields.
Neel-Schaffer provided civil site, structural, electrical, and construction
management services for the amphitheater. Neel-Schaffer sister firms Maptech
and SoilTech also provided services for the $15 million project.
The amphitheater includes 3,500 permanent chairback seats, boxed seats, and
a large pit area for portable seating and standing crowds in front of the large
stage. Other amenities include two large concession stands, a VIP lounge and
entertainment area, eight green rooms for entertainers, two kitchens, and a
cafeteria for the entertainers and their crews. The facility is built on the site of
an old rock quarry, and hundreds of large boulders that were moved during the
construction process now serve as walls and landscaping amenities.
Designated parking is provided behind the amphitheater for 18-wheel trucks and
RVs used by the entertainers to carry equipment and band and crew members.
