Neel-Schaffer has an opportunity for an Engineering Technician to join our growing engineering firm. This position is based in our Mandeville, LA, location. Neel-Schaffer is an Engineering News-Record Top 500 engineering design, planning, and construction management firm. This position involves skilled sub-professional engineering work in the field and office. The Engineering Technician will perform various work including engineering and drafting tasks within the engineering office as well as direct inspection duties at project specific locations when required. The anticipated office work for an Engineering Technician would include developing civil site surface comparisons, volume calculations, drafting of all components of construction plan sets and development of cross sections for plans for civil engineering projects.
Anticipated field work for an Engineering Technician includes documenting construction projects and inspecting job activities to verify compliance with project plans and specifications. The Engineering Technician must be capable of basic rod and level surveying and drafting, as they apply to documenting and inspection of a construction project.
Requirements include a 4-year course in drafting design and/or college degree, plus a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in structural/transportation/civil drafting. A minimum of 5 years of experience in construction inspection, surveying or highway materials testing and inspection is also required.
Typical projects include roadways, bridges, coastal restoration, flood protection, water/wastewater, site improvements, and other general civil engineering projects. Working knowledge of both AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation preferred with experience using survey files, developing surfaces and corridors. Working knowledge of ArcGIS is a plus.
- 3-5 years of experience, with a bachelor’s degree.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D required.
- Familiarity with MicroStation preferred.
- Working knowledge of ArcGIS is a plus.
- Strong verbal communication and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
- Valid driver’s license.
This position requires good organizational and communication skills, good problem-solving abilities, and an ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Basic computer skills are required, and some travel may be required.
