The Art Park at Catfish Row

For the City of Vicksburg, Mississippi

In the summer of 2003, Neel-Schaffer was contracted to provide professional engineering and architectural services to design The Art Park from conceptual plans developed by Neel-Schaffer and The Landscape Studio. The park was the vision of Mayor Laurence Leyens to create an adventure into the historical life and times of the city of Vicksburg and the mighty Mississippi River and was constructed in the area bounded by Mulberry Street to the east, Levee Street to the north and west, and Clay Street to the south. The Art Park includes children activity features, gardens, fountains, art stacks and walls and unique exhibits illustrating the history of the river city.

The engineering services provided by Neel-Schaffer included:
  • Relocation of existing utilities
  • Grading and drainage
  • Structural design for the art stacks
  • Reconstruction of Levee Street
  • Erosion control
  • Construction engineering
Surveying and geotechnical services were also provided for the project.
