Emily B. Rut Named Engineer of the Year by The Mississippi Engineering Society
Neel-Schaffer, Inc., an engineering and planning firm with offices located throughout the South and Texas, is pleased to announce that Emily B. Rut, Civil Engineer Intern/Project Engineer, has been named as the 2009 recipient of the Mississippi Engineering Society’s (MES) Young Engineer of the Year Award.
A native of Madison, Mississippi, and under 35 years of age, Rut has earned this award by exemplifying the following characteristics:
- Professional integrity that is beyond question,
- Professional reputation that extends beyond the engineering, architectural, and/or construction fields, and
- Consistent promotion of the welfare of the engineer and of the engineering profession.
Rut earned her Bachelor of Science from Mississippi State University in 2004. She is active in various civil and religious organizations. As a Neel-Schaffer, Inc. project engineer, Rut provides design and construction services for numerous projects that vary in scope and size. Her duties include the following:
- Design and preparation of plans and specifications for construction of site/civil developments, roadway improvements, bridge construction, drainage and hydraulic projects, industrial facilities, and recreational facilities;
- Supervision of engineering technicians preparing construction plans; and
- Oversight of contract administration and construction inspection and testing for construction projects of all types.
Currently Rut is personally responsible for supervising construction engineering and inspection of a $7.1 million road and bridge construction project in Jackson, Miss. |
